I have been in the woods daily getting ready for tapping.  It's easy getting around the woods right now with the low snow depth.  Good time to cover the entire 120 acres.  Our plan is to start tapping the last week in January which will finnish us up probably the first or second week in febuary.  There usually is a thaw sometime around the second or third week in Febuary. This is the start to the sugaring season for us.  Then it freezes up for a time, which gives us time to get things in order for the inevitable rush that is Maple Sugaring!.  The entire season last until the second or third week in April.

The sugar woods are looking good and healthy.  we are getting lots of rain and a fair amount of sun.  it's almost time to head back into the woods to clear any branches that have fallen and pulled any sugaring lines to the ground.  This is usually done once a month throughout the summer months.

Started walking the sugarwoods looking for any damage and lines that are on the ground.  Found a few down, but not bad.  The wind storms have been light this summer and that makes for faster walking.  Even the bugs have not been bad.  The leaves on some of the trees have started turning red and some are starting to fall.  Seems early but maybe not.  You can feel the fall in the air.
